About

My name is Imran Ajmain and I was born in April 1981, so as of 2008, that makes me 27 years old. That’s quite late a number to have just begun a career in pop music but I’ve been struggling at it since 1999. I have one album “Dengan Secara Kebetulan” out on my own label in Singapore in 2006 and I was picked up by a few aggregrators from Malaysia which led to my migration to Kuala Lumpur in late 2007.

I’m a very observant person. I’m very good with names and faces, but horrible with numbers and figures. I can imitate a dozen accents. Sadly, I cannot swim. I am quick witted, and I love a good laugh especially when it just doesn’t seem to end. I’m a better speaker than I am a listener. I believe I am kind like my Ma, and I am decisive like my Abah. Neither of them have this problem that I do: Saying No. I didn’t do well academically but my bills are paid and I eat well because I work very hard to command the kind of opportunities and rewards that are channelled to my name. Just Google me, seriously.

I’ve always been a writer at heart and only recently I scored myself some writing jobs with Junk Magazine (KL), and a celebrity journal on Berita Minggu (SG) which I archive here. Some of the things I say on my blog or to the press have gotten me a fair share of whipping. However, I believe that I’m campaigning for positive progress and that nobody can stop me. I speak and write mostly about the Malay society in Singapore and its shortcomings, and also the development of the Malay music industry.

Most of my artwork is supported by a husband & wife team, Zee & Wan, whom I adore and they call themselves ‘PlayPause‘. I have a manager in Singapore who admits she’s a productive groupie. Raudha, who originally had her own networking business called WorkHeart Pte Ltd, started saving my life from disorganisation (and paperwork).

I am 1 out of 2 children to my father, Ahmad Husaini, who is a fierce Javanese man and my mother, Rietha Fatima, a soft-hearted, accomodating Dutch lady. My sister, Musliha Ajmain, lives in the Netherlands with her husband and 3 year old daughter, the apple of my eye, Dahlia. I grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, studied in Singapore and currently living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I take the MRT when I’m back home in Singapore.

Some people like to argue that I’m only a one-hit wonder because my ‘Seribu Tahun’ opened many doors for me and I’m only known for that song. Well, what a pity they’ve never had that kind of miracle happen to them before. Its been an amazing year touring Malaysia. I’ve made more friends than my phone can store, met my idols like Ning Baizura, Dato Siti Nurhaliza and Anuar Zain amongst others, and have been experiencing the kind of life (and lifestyle) only kids singing to their hairbrushes would understand. I’m in the process of recording my 2nd album called “Punca Dan Tindakan” of which the first single is a ballad titled “Selamat Ulang Tahun Sayang“; a piece I wrote with Fedtri Yahya and it was arranged by Eddie Marzuki.

I dream of starting my own magazine for Malay entertainment and would like to sing the National Anthem during National Day someday. And if you love my music, please buy the album and come for my shows, it’s only fair. If you do not know who the heck I am, it doesn’t mean I’m not famous.
