I woke up before the alarm went off. There was no newspapers, there was no breakfast. I’ve had it too easy all my life, had things presented to me like that for so long, I didn’t think of the possibility that it could be my turn to do that. To wake up for subuh, and go down and get bread and a copy of Straits Times and Berita Harian. Come back up, and make tea for the family. Damn, it is my turn already. Whatever happened to waking up to cartoons and warm Milo already prepared? Whatever happened to the easy life? It will just get worse, like an endless cycle, added-on responsibilities. Not far from today, I’ll be waking somebody else up for school or work, and preparing breakfast for them, and cleaning up after them, and washing up after them. Scary thought. The price for adulthood is.. our irresponsible youth.
Visited Siglap Secondary School and had Mdm Abidah and Mrs Shirley Goh greeted my name out loud and clear. Mrs Goh had lost almost all of her weight, and asked if I still wrote poetry. I wish I could have chitchatted with her a bit more. I’d show her off Liquide Magazine and my SGhiphop card and tell her about the Triple Noize album and Teh Tarik Crew album. She’ll be so proud. Mrs Goh taught me English in Sec 2 and she’s been very supportive of all of my ideas and my command of English. She’d read out loud my compositions to others’ dismay. Oh, Mrs Goh, you are the reason. Jamila, if you’re reading this, she still wears her beaded necklace from South Africa!
I’m singing for their Graduation/Prom Night which, strangely, takes place a week before their exams. I was introduced to Emma who says she reads this blog. Hmm, you should tag. It’s not nice to secretly read somebody’s blog when there’s a tagboard but not participate. Anyway, I was introduced to a group of young boys and girls who are also performing for the event. We didn’t start off on the right foot. When I told Mr. Kek, yes it’s spelt that way, that the sound system was bad, the message that they got was that their performance was bad. So they were cursing away outside when Emma had passed back the news to me. I gently went out to talk to them outside. One was Mahathir. I had to cool him down a bit. I told him that it must have been a great misunderstanding. I wouldn’t have quickly judged their performance of Triple Noize’s Mak Minah like that. They were having fun! The dude told me about his future plans and I felt so happy, after they apologized for jumping to conclusions, that probably something good will come out of this. Mahathir and any members of De Familie, if you’re reading this, all the best ok! Feel free to contact me if you need any help.
I met Uzi and Calli after so long. Well, Calli at least. I remember us laughing so hard the last time we met, and also the serious deep conversations we had all night long with Uzi at Newton. Sweet sweet girl. Can’t wait to see her again. Silly me, shouldn’t have blogged about going to Australia. What if she read? Let’s hope she doesn’t. Pretend you didn’t see this ok!
I’m having a superbusy day tomorrow. Going places, seeing faces. I hope all ya’ll have a supergreat day yourselves. I want to go for a jog, maybe. Keemi, study smart, relax on the tension a bit. Tell me which bag you want to get, bro. We’ll work on an installment plan, just for you. Shahrir, I called you just now to share a bit of my excitement upon seeing 80:180BPM poster with your name on it, but you didn’t pick up the phone. Walao! I miss you guys. Anaiz, Yadin, where are you guys?
Nothing much to ponder about today ‘cept that I met the dudes from Phenomenals, had my routine chitchat about hiphop awareness in Singapore. Khutbah baik punya! I hope I didn’t bore them. Infact, I hope I brought about a certain inspiration, okay, maybe minimal inspiration. All of us have a right to a talent, and then the right to showcase it. PlatformIII on the way. Tell everybody to come next Tuesday to Jams please……
